It has the option of using it manually or auto. It also has an easy setting. I like the fact that it doesn't have a lens cap that you have to worry about. And another Pro is that you can put optional lenses on it.

The only bad thing that I can think of that I have run into is that depending on the settings it may take a while after you use the flash for the camera to be ready for another picture. This fit the bill. Using the auto settings this is a sharp camera. At low light it's difficult to capture distant objects unless you're completely still or using a tripod - but this is a sub $200 point and shoot and it does what it is expected to do. Decent LCD size and brightness. Cons = slow focus lock when taking pictures. It is very simple to use-as a point and shoot. The photos are clear and sharp. It has many features, many of which I have yet to explore. It runs on 2 AA batteries.

I got rechargable batteries and am very happy with this set up. My only two complaints, they are not too significant, are that there is a little delay between flash photos and that it is a little bulky (this is a plus when shooting as you can feel it in your hands but not great in the back pocket) I would recommend this camera. I previously owned an A85. In four years, Canon has improved so many specs in so many ways. Relative to the A85, my favorite improvements are: 1) uses only two AA batteries 2) image stabilization 3) better visual cues in menu systems 4) retains many manual controls while adding more camera assist features such as face detection, extra scene modes, and smart focus One thing I'm not so pleased with is the slow memory write transfers. Using the highest quality settings, the camera takes a few seconds to write the data onto the memory card. I am using a fast memory card which can handle the bandwidth. The image quality is very great, easy to use, and Canon is always superior quality. This is alot of camera for the money, the only complaint I would have with it is the same complaint I have with any point and shoot, the response time is a little slow and they all drain battery power. You won't be disappointed with this camera, I would purchase it for myself but I don't have alot of use for a point and shoot, my family member loves everything about it.
